The dependent exemption, the earned income tax credit (EITC), and the child tax credit (CTC), supported at times by Republicans and Democrats alike, help bolster families financially, reduce poverty levels, and provide other positive returns to society
The problem with these credits/entitlements is they discourage marriage and encourage single moms to have more kids while remaining single. Low income persons generally know how these programs work. And getting back to where the country was 60+ years ago in terms of number of kids born out of wedlock would be tremendously beneficial to the kids impacted and society in general. Sorry
