Are we forgetting that the young and the old are the same people at different times of life? Just as importantly, it’s not accurate to say that the young are transferring money to the old (their future selves). Money is born when the federal government spends it and disappears when the government taxes it. Just as money disappears when bank loans are repaid. In my opinion. There is no generational warfare. We have a president who just demanded $1.5 trillion for obsolete battleships. The federal government is quite capable of funding Social Security if we decide to finance retirement that way. If we cut Social Security we will have to find a more expensive way to fund retirement. Individual saving is impossible for half the population. The young and old are the same people.

As much as they want transferred to them when they are old. [Ditto for sick, unemployed, raising children, disabled] It’s insurance. How much of the vicissitudes of life do we wish to provide for.
